Conference of our Law Students: “Legal professions and their future”

On 14 June, we held a very interesting conference at our main campus – the Conference of Law Experts on “Legal professions and their future.” The event was organised by the Law Institute of Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia” under the Honorary Patronage of:

  • HM Provost of Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia” – prof. dr. hab. Paweł Czarnecki, MBA, DBA, LL.M, MPH, Dr. h.c.;
  • The Foundation of Alexis De Tocqueville;
  • The Polish Federation of Entrepreneurs and Employers Przedziębiorcy.pl;
  • The Polish Federation of Hospitals;
  • Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia” Legal Analysis Centre.

 

The conference was divided into two panels, during which our guests talked about the advantages and challenges of the legal profession. Our speakers, who represent various legal professions, including attorneys-at-law, lawyers, judges, public prosecutor, church attorneys, tax advisors as well as restructuring advisors, made interesting remarks about their vision of the professions that they represent.

 

The following persons were the speakers at the conference:

  • Marzena Witkowska, legal counsel at PGRP, who delivered a speech on “Legal Counsel at the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Poland against the background of other legal professions”;
  • Jan Hambura, restructuring advisor, who delivered a speech on “A restructuring advisor – profession of the future”;
  • Izabela Ustymenko-Łukasik, legal advisor, who delivered a speech on “The future of the profession of legal advisor”;
  • Grzegorz Gąsior, a state official, who delivered a speech on “Lawyers in the organisation of elections”;
  • Judge Igor Tuleya took part in an interview and conversation with students.

 

The following students delivered their own speeches:

  • Maja Nowakowska: “The ban on advertising by advocates and foreign regulations in this context”;
  • Emilia Gizka: “Freedom of contract and prohibitions related to remuneration in the form of a success fee”;
  • Angelika Szydlik: “The prohibition to represent the opposing parties to a dispute by lawyers who are close to each other”;
  • Dominika Szatan: “Is the lawyer’s independence guaranteed by the prohibition to provide legal services under an employment contract?”;
  • Beata Fronczak: “The online activity of lawyers – informing versus advertising”;
  • Paulina Szydłowska: “The analysis of the possibility of merging the Bar of Advocates and the Bar of Attorneys-at-Law”;
  • Olha Kokhanets: “Lawyer in the cyberspace”;
  • Oliwia Chmielewska: “Will artificial intelligence replace lawyers?”;
  • Joanna Jagielska: “The law of new technologies as an area of law with a future”;
  • Krystian Kawaliło: “Legal Technology – new technologies in the work of a lawyer”;
  • Józef Boguszewski: “The analysis of the objections raised by the Minister of Justice regarding the enlisting of advocates. The analysis of jurisprudence of administrative courts”;
  • Agata Seżysko: “Removal from the list of advocates: quantitative analysis on the basis of data provided by ORA”;
  • Klaudia Borkowska: “Freedom of economic activity and the reliability of providing legal services by non-corporate entities”;
  • Joanna Kucharska: “Do we need an amendment to the Ammunition and Firearms Act?”;
  • Halyna Jarzyło: “The role of a lawyer in a modern democratic society”.

 

The conference made it possible for the participants to evaluate the main directions of the development of the legal industry. It also created unique opportunities to analyse the main regulations in the field of practicing the legal profession in accordance with internal corporate regulations as well as different provisions of the generally applicable law.

 

The organising committee of the conference was composed of:

  • Kamil Stępniak – Director of the Centre for Legal Analyses and Assistant Professor at Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia”;
  • Marcin Jan Stępień – Assistant Professor at Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia”;
  • Bartosz Straszak – Assistant Professor at Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia” and Director of Investments and Development at the Voivodeship Specialist Hospital No. 5 of St. Barbara;
  • Radosław Kostrubiec – attorney-at-law, Doctor of Social Sciences in the field of legal sciences, professor at Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia”;
  • attorney Wojciech Chrzanowski – advocate and church attorney, assistant at Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia”;
  • attorney Bartłomiej Solarz – attorney-at-law, graduate of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, assistant at Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia”.

Adw. Magdalena Stryja

Doświadczenie Prorektor Magdaleny Stryi obejmuje współpracę z takimi ośrodkami i instytucjami naukowymi jak Uniwersytet Cambridge, Centre for International Sustainable Development Law, Uniwersytet Śląski, Okręgową Radą Adwokacką w Katowicach czy Naczelną Radą Adwokacką. Od prawie dwóch dekad związana jest ze szkolnictwem wyższym, a przez ostatnie 10 lat także z Polską Adwokaturą. W tym czasie sprawowała m.in. takie funkcje jak: członkini Senatu Uniwersytetu Śląskiego, Rady Wydziału Prawa i Administracji UŚ, Rad Dydaktycznych kierunków: prawo i administracja, przedsiębiorczość. Piastowała dyrektorskie stanowiska w Narodowej Agencji Programu Erasmus + i Europejskiego Korpusu Solidarności, w Akademii WSB oraz w Uniwersytecie Śląskim. Od ponad 15 lat ściśle współpracuje z mediami najpierw jako rzecznik Wydziału Prawa i Administracji, a następnie jako Rzecznik Fundacji Rozwoju Systemu Edukacji.

Jest pierwszym w Polsce prawnikiem przyjętym w poczet międzynarodowej organizacji klimatycznej Centre for International Sustainable Development Law, posiadającej status konsultacyjny przy ONZ, w której prym wiedzie Uniwersytet Cambridge. Od 2018 roku przewodnicząca eksperckich sesji oraz członkini Komitetu Programowego największej światowej prawniczej konferencji klimatycznej współorganizowanej przez Uniwersytet Cambridge pt. Climate Law and Governance Day, która była i jest integralną częścią Szczytów Klimatycznych COP24, COP25, COP26, COP27, COP28. W 2020 roku została uhonorowana nagrodą World Legal Specialist Award for Climate Change przyznawaną przez CISDL, a w 2023 uhonorowana tytułem Osobowość Roku Dziennika Zachodniego za działalność charytatywna i społeczną w Gliwicach.

Autorka publikacji z zakresu prawa klimatycznego i nowoczesnych technologii w tak renomowanych wydawnictwach jak: Springer, Nomos czy Routledge.

Przewodnicząca Komisji Nauki i Rozwoju przy Okręgowej Radzie Adwokackiej w Katowicach. Pełniła także funkcję członkini kolegium dziekańskiego WPIA UŚ czy członkini zespołu prasowego Naczelnej Rady Adwokackiej. Pełnomocnik dziekana oraz rektora w zakresie praktyk studenckich oraz procesów dostosowywania struktur jednostek uniwersytetu do aktualnych przepisów.

Dyrektor Międzynarodowego Kongresu Jakości Kształcenia 2022 oraz Międzynarodowego Kongresu Edukacji i Szkolnictwa Zawodowego 2023. Członkini zespołu pierwszego międzynarodowego rankingu nowoczesnej generacji EngiRank2023.

Członkini grupy badawczej Just Transition, zespołu naukowego w projekcie unijnym Train in your language: multilingual transnational training in EU civil and commercial law – TRAIL, zespołu badawczego Prawa Pracy I Ubezpieczeń Społecznych w Uniwersytecie Śląskim, członkini uniwersyteckiego zespołu ds utworzenia kierunku studiów Administrowanie Środowiskiem, a także zespołu ds utworzenia studiów podyplomowych CYBER SCIENCE przez Uniwersytet Śląsk, Politechnikę Śląską oraz NASK.

Przez lata zasiadała w uniwersyteckich zespołach i komisjach ds. promocji, dostępności, jakości kształcenia czy rankingów. Od ponad 14 lat wykładowczyni prawa pracy i ubezpieczeń społecznych.

Organizatorka lub współorganizatorka blisko 80 międzynarodowych lub ogólnopolskich kongresów, konferencji naukowych; Prelegentka, przewodnicząca paneli eksperckich lub moderatorka sesji w trakcie 70 międzynarodowych lub ogólnopolskich kongresów, konferencji, sympozjów;

Organizatorka, współorganizatorka lub główna prowadząca blisko 50 wydarzeń o charakterze charytatywnym, społecznym lub artystycznym w tym główna prowadząca gliwickie Finały Wielkiej Orkiestry Świątecznej pomocy WOŚP w latach 2018 – 2024.
