Expert debate on “Communication in healthcare”
On 28 October, a debate entitled “Communication in healthcare – business, social and systemic aspects” was held in Browary Warszawskie in Warsaw. The meeting was attended by various representatives of the academic and scientific community, government and medical institutions as well as the world of media to determine in a joint effort why and how to plan communication in the context of healthcare. The debate was organised by Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia” and the Institute of Awareness Foundation.
“Medicine is a form of art, it cannot really be called a craft, because it is a profession, a special vocation and service. Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia” has been strongly involved in our healthcare system from the very beginning. Our University cooperates very closely with medical institutions,” – emphasised prof. dr hab. Pawel Czarnecki, Provost of Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia”.
Professor Teresa Panas, Director of the Institute of Psychology and Pedagogy at Uczelnia Biznesu i Nauk Stosowanych „Varsovia” and President of the Polish Psychological Society, emphasised that diverse messages as well as a language that is tailored to the needs of different audiences in terms of its content and style are both the foundations of a communication toolkit that is intended not only for medical journalists but for all participants in the communication process in healthcare.
The debate was accompanied by a photographic exhibition “We Give Our Hearts” by Mr Dariusz Adam Pańczyk, which was created in cooperation with the Institute of Awareness Foundation. The photographs show doctors and medical staff saving lives of their patients. “The exhibition “We Give Our Hearts” shows photographs which are absolutely authentic, real photos depicting medics in situations that are commonplace for them, whereas for most of us so unusual and spectacular. We hope that our exhibition can contribute to the work of medics who care and fight for human life on a daily basis so that there is more appreciation of their work in the society,” – emphasised Ms Ewelina Pańczyk, President of the Institute of Awareness Foundation.
